Bottle Top Bill Children Games

Role: Project Manager /Game Designer

Job: Industrial Project for Southern Star Singapore

(Feb 2007 - Apr 2007)

Platform: PC

Time Taken: 3 Months

Tools Used: Flash

Description:

This is a set of 3 flash games developed during my final year project at Nanyang Polytechnic.  These games were designed for children between the ages 3 to 6.The client Southern Star has a popular children show called Bottle Top Bill and had approached the school to create 3 flash games for this particular IP.  I led a team of 5 (2 Programmers and 3 Artists/ Designers) to complete 3 flash games in 3 months. I designed the gameplay for 2 games and created some artwork.

We started off with research, by going to nurseries to find out what type of games were suitable and educational to children ages 3 to 6. The company was satisfied with the games and the children of my head of department could not stop playing them.

The first game “Dandy”, is a game where the children would use the mouse to control Dandy, the fairy, to draw shapes. By successfully doing so, they will be rewarded by a piece of the landscape. The objective of the game is for the children to draw as many shapes as needed, to complete the landscape. The aim of the game is to teach the children about shapes and how to draw them.

The second game “Habitat” is a click and drop game. The objective of the game is to match the correct animal to the correct habitat. The aim of the game is to teach the children about animals and their habitats.

The last game “Sheep” was inspired by an old childhood game called the Mother Hen and the Eagle, where the player playing as the mother hen has to protect the “chicks” from the eagle. The objective of the game is to protect the sheeps from the character, Wooly, until the time runs out. The aim of the game is to train the reflexes of the children and their ability to use the mouse.
